- Etobicoke Creek Trail
Stretching over 20 km, the Etobicoke Creek Trail is a family-friendly path that offers a mix of winding, paved routes and some steeper or more rugged sections. Along the trail, you'll encounter offshoots leading into nearby residential areas for added accessibility. It winds through Loafers Lake, numerous parks and playgrounds, and crosses bridges and underpasses surrounded by lush trees, greenery, and a diverse array of flora and fauna. With plenty of pedestrians and hikers sharing the trail, it feels safe, and certain areas are so serene you'll forget you're in Brampton. The noise of the roads fades away, and nature takes center stage.
Heart Lake Conservation Area Trails
The expansive Heart Lake Conservation Area offers six recreational trails, each varying in length and difficulty. Here are some of the top picks:
-
Lake Trail
For those wanting to get up close to the water, the Lake Trail offers a scenic 3.7 km ride. It's considered moderately challenging due to gravel patches, natural surfaces, and an elevated section. However, it's well worth the effort — our family has enjoyed this trail, and we had a fantastic time. -
Esker Lake Trail
A personal favorite, the Esker Lake Trail spans 3.1 km through the conservation area, passing under Sandalwood Parkway and into Esker Lake and White Spruce Park. Along the way, you’ll discover a beautiful path with scenic views. In early spring, listen closely — the chorus of frogs from the nearby shallow lake is unmistakable. You'll also find a dog park at White Spruce Park. -
Mountain Bike Trail
For experienced riders seeking a challenge, the Mountain Bike Trail is your go-to. Its difficulty and rugged terrain promise a thrilling ride, allowing you to enjoy moments of solitude amidst nature. While adventurous, this trail is not recommended for families due to its intensity. -
Rayner Trail
For families with young children or seniors, the Rayner Trail is ideal. This gentle, low-intensity path offers a short, enjoyable ride while still allowing you to take in the natural beauty of the area. It’s perfect for beginners, and we even took our 6-year-old son here for his first trail ride!
These trails in Heart Lake are perfect for exploring nature, whether you're cycling or just strolling.
